CHOOSING THE RIGHT PUMP Because of the manner in which the device operates, it is necessary that the outside diameter of the sleeve have the correct size relationship to the diameter of the borehole. For optimum efficiency, the flexible rubber sleeve needs to contact the wall of the borehole when it's inflated with enough force to affect a tight seal. It's therefore necessary to use sleeves with varying diameters for different size holes. It generally works best if the sleeve is about an inch smaller than the inside diameter of the smaller drill holes, and a bit more in the larger sizes. This distance allows enough clearance for the sleeve to move freely up and down in the hole without excessive rubbing and wear. |
