CHOOSING THE RIGHT PUMP

Because of the manner in which the device operates, it is necessary that the outside diameter of the sleeve have the correct size relationship to the diameter of the borehole. For optimum efficiency, the flexible rubber sleeve needs to contact the wall of the borehole when it's inflated with enough force to affect a tight seal. It's therefore necessary to use sleeves with varying diameters for different size holes. It generally works best if the sleeve is about an inch smaller than the inside diameter of the smaller drill holes, and a bit more in the larger sizes. This distance allows enough clearance for the sleeve to move freely up and down in the hole without excessive rubbing and wear.

The pump assembly is basically a two part device. It consists of the metal pump body and the rubber sleeves. The pump body is offered in four different sizes, with a variety of sleeves in different diameters designed and built for each. There are some choices as to which pump body you can use where sleeve sizes overlap, but basically, the choice will be dependant on the diameter of the holes which need dewatering. When the right size sleeve is offered with two different pump bodies, the choice can come down to a consideration of weight and pumping capacity. The bigger pump will move water quicker due to the larger inside diameter of the discharge line. It will be a little heavier however. The reverse is also true, the smaller size will pump a little slower, but it will weigh less. Probably a more important consideration for most users, will be the range of hole diameters covered by each size pump. When the user needs to dewater several different sized holes, the pump body which has the widest range of the proper sized sleeves would be the best choice.

To Use the Chart: Match your hole diameter along the left column with the sleeve numbers in the body of the chart. Then go to top row to choose a pump size. When you pump several different size holes, choose pump with range of sleeves in the hole sizes you anticipate
